What do you get when you bring all of the Canadas most powerful and influential group of men and woman into one the most historic hotel in the country? The 3rd annual Canadian Arts and fashion awards. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Everyone who’s anyone in the Canadian fashion industry was there that night along with some honorable international guest. Making an appearance that night was Sex And The City star Kim Katrall, Americas next top model judge Jay Manuel and models Coco Rochas, Elle Mcpherson, Winnie Harlow and Karlie Kloss. Can I seriously for the love of god get another YASS?!! Everyone that night came out dressed to the nines in some of Canadas most talented and influential fashion houses in the country.
It was also such a surreal experience to finally see my clients from my Mikael D event that I hosted rock their Mikael D couture for the first time during the award alongside other acclaimed Canadian designers in the city such as Stephan Caras, Greta Constantine, Mikhael Kale, Christopher Paulin and Matthew Gallanger. Each one of these labels caters to a different market and ecstatic and it was nice not to see models wearing the designs for once, but to see familiar faces strut down the CAFA red carpet.
I’ve said it once and will say it again, CAFA is the most important night in Canadian Fashion and I am so honored to have been a part of it for the second year in a row. Let’s be honest…. The Canadian fashion market is pretty much invisible when compared to Paris, London or Milan. And Quite frankly. At the bringing of my journey in fashion (long before Tuxedosergio)…. I didn’t care about our industry at all and didn’t think it was worth exploring. Now, having been in the industry for a little over a year. I see how much talent our local designers have and am so grateful to be able to grow among side such talented and influential people and my opinions have completely changed. It’s all thanks to year round efforts by the community and events like CAFA that bring us together and put Canadian fashion on the map.
Looking forward to next year and congratulations to all the nominees and winners.
